Free wound care timer for tracking dressing change intervals. Set reminders for 12-hour, 24-hour, or 48-hour dressing changes as prescribed. Start instantly.
Frequency depends on wound type and exudate level. Simple dry wounds: every 24-48 hours. Moderately exuding wounds: every 24 hours. Heavily exuding wounds: every 8-12 hours. Your healthcare provider will prescribe the appropriate interval for your specific wound.
Change the dressing immediately if it becomes saturated with fluid (strike-through), visibly soiled, loose or lifted at the edges, or if the wound develops increased pain, odour, or warmth — these may indicate infection. Do not wait for the timer.
Use sterile saline solution or clean running water. Gently irrigate the wound to remove debris. Pat dry with sterile gauze. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or iodine on healing wounds — these damage new tissue. Apply prescribed dressing or antimicrobial cover.
Primary dressings contact the wound directly (absorbent pads, hydrocolloids, foams). Secondary dressings hold primary dressings in place (bandages, tape, tubular bandage). Dressing change frequency may differ between the two layers.
Healthy healing signs: wound edges drawing together, reduced exudate over time, pink granulation tissue forming, decreased pain. Concern signs: increased size, tunnelling, green or foul-smelling discharge, spreading redness or warmth around the wound — seek medical review.
