Free volleyball timer for between-set intervals. FIVB rules: 3 minutes between sets, 30-second technical timeouts. Track match flow and substitution windows.
Best of 5 sets. Sets 1–4 play to 25 points (win by 2). Set 5 (deciding set) plays to 15 points (win by 2). A typical match lasts 60–120 minutes. Best of 3 format (common at club and recreational level) takes 45–90 minutes. There is no time limit in volleyball — matches end by score.
Player/coach timeout: 30 seconds, 2 per team per set. Technical timeout (FIVB international): 30 seconds automatically at 8 and 16 points in sets 1–4. In some competitions, technical timeouts are replaced by optional timeouts. The 30-second window is enough for tactical adjustments and fluid intake.
FIVB rules: 3 minutes between sets 1–4. Before the deciding set (set 5): 5 minutes. At recreational and club level, the interval is often set by the competition organiser, typically 1–3 minutes. Use the interval for tactical discussion, hydration, and reviewing the previous set.
FIVB rules: 6 substitutions per set per team. Once a substituted player returns, they can only replace the player who replaced them. The libero (defensive specialist) has unlimited substitutions but can only play in the back row. Substitutions must be requested during a dead ball.
The libero is a defensive specialist wearing a contrasting jersey. They can enter and leave the game freely in the back row without using a team substitution. The libero cannot serve, attack above the net, or set from in front of the attack line. Their role is to improve reception and defence.
