Free monthly tyre pressure check reminder. Correct tyre pressure improves fuel economy by 3% and prevents blowouts. Set a 30-day reminder. Start instantly.
Monthly as a minimum, plus before any long journey. Tyres naturally lose 1–2 PSI per month at normal temperatures. In cold weather, pressure drops approximately 1 PSI for every 10°F temperature decrease — so a monthly check in winter is especially important.
Check the sticker inside the driver's door jamb or in the owner's manual — never the number on the tyre sidewall (that is the maximum safe pressure, not the recommended operating pressure). Most passenger cars use 30–35 PSI front and rear, though many modern cars use different pressures for front and rear.
Under-inflation: poor fuel economy, uneven tread wear on the outer edges, increased risk of blowout at highway speeds, poor handling. Over-inflation: reduced contact patch, poor braking, harsh ride, and uneven wear on the centre tread. Both conditions are safety hazards.
Always check when cold — before driving more than 2 miles or after the car has been stationary for at least 3 hours. Driving heats the air inside the tyre, increasing pressure by 4–6 PSI. Hot readings give falsely high results and may lead you to let air out unnecessarily.
You cannot accurately check tyre pressure by appearance alone — a tyre can be 20% under-inflated and still look visually normal. Use a tyre pressure gauge (digital or Bourdon tube). Many petrol stations provide air and pressure gauges free of charge.
